SHOW HIGHLIGHTS & RECOGNITIONS
Three ensembles. One tradition of improvisation, groove, and musicianship. Carl Albert Jazz showcases festival performance, competitive achievement, and individual artistry from Middle School through the state's top ranks.
The Carl Albert Jazz Program is recognized as one of the top performing jazz ensembles in our state. Our staff uses a standard jazz curriculum that teaches fundamentals of jazz style, improvisation, jazz history and performance education.
CAMS Jazz meets once a week after school, and they invite all 2nd and 3rd year players to join, regardless of the instrument they play. The group performs 2-3 concerts per year, and does community outreach concerts.
The CAHS Jazz Ensemble 2 is compiled of students either playing in a jazz ensemble for the first time or those who are performing on a secondary instrument. CAHS Jazz 2 uses the standard jazz instrumentation of 5-6 saxophones, 4-5 trombones, 4-5 trumpets, piano, guitar, bass and two percussionists. Meeting outside of the school day, this group competes at the OSSAA State Jazz Contest every year and often earns superior ratings.
Carl Albert High School's Jazz Ensemble 1 is the premiere jazz group at CAHS. CAHS Jazz 1 has consistently earned superior ratings at OSSAA State Jazz Festival. They also compete at several regional and invitational festivals including the Choctaw Jazz Festival, SWOSU Jazz Festival and OSU Jazz Festival. CAHS Jazz 1 uses standard jazz instrumentation.

Jazz Ensemble 1 is the standard-bearer for the program — consistently rated Superior with back-to-back OSSAA State 2nd Runner-Up finishes.
Directed by Burnnie Moore — a two-year member of the San Antonio Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps and summer snare-line staff for the Crossmen DCI corps — Carl Albert Percussion trains snare, tenors, bass, cymbals, and front ensemble across the entire program vertical.
