FAQs
Who can join band?
Any 5th grader can join the 6th Grade Beginning Band! Enrollment is open to all students. No prior music experience is required – we will teach you everything you need to know.

We also offer a 7th Grade Beginning Band class for those that did not join 6th Grade Beginning Band or that are new to the district.
What instruments can I choose when I enroll in band?
We start with flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. Later in the year, some students will be selected to switch to oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, saxophone, horn, euphonium, and tuba.

Can I play sports and be in band?
Yes! The band and athletic departments work with the administration to allow students to participate in all activities! Our middle school and high school bands include many athletes, members of clubs and academic teams, and students who participate in activities outside of school.
What is the cost?
This can vary depending on which instrument your child chooses. Most parents will rent a quality instrument from a local music store at a very reasonable price. If financial constraints prevent you from being able to do this, please contact us and allow us to help. Information about obtaining an instrument is sent out at the beginning of 6th grade. Our band staff is prepared to help you find a quality instrument that will work well for your child!
What is required outside of school hours?
Band is a regularly scheduled, year-long class that does not interfere with your child's other classes.

In Beginning Band, there are three required performances outside of the school day – the Fall, Winter, and Spring Concerts. There may be some additional band activities and performances during the school day, including the Mid-Del 6th Grade Honor Band.
